NGORONGORO CRATER
Ngorongoro crater is located at Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority; a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve, the largest intact crater in the world and second largest extinct crater in the world has a spectacular concentration of wildlife. Ngorongoro was an active volcano some eight million years ago whose cone collapsed, leaving a huge crater which is seen today. The Crater rim is wooded with mountain forest vegetation.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority has recently taken total control of one of its trail within the Northern Highland Forest Reserve (NHFR).
Ngorongoro Crater can be reached by road from Arusha to Lodoare Gate entrance gate which is 160 km long. It takes 3-4 hours to reach Ngorongoro crater National Park from arusha.
After completing the necessary registration at Loduare gate, you will go down the Ngorongoro Crater for the crater tour where you will see black Rhino, Elephant, Leopards, Buffalo, lion prides in the grasslands, hyenas, jackals as well as large herds of Zebras and Wildebeests.
Also in Ngorongoro Crate you can see Maasai people and experience how the huts are built in a strict pattern of order according to the chronological order of the wives,
Don’t ignore some of the smaller and rarer creatures, such as serval cats, or the bird life, from the flashy crown cranes to the nest-knitting weaver birds. You’ll look in vain, however, for several animals that don’t thrive in the crater ecosystem at all, including crocodiles and giraffes
